Pietro da Cortona 1597-1669

The Soprintendenza per i Beni Artistici e Storici di Roma is clebrating this anniversary with the large monographic exhibition "Pietro da Cortona 1597-1669" to be held in the rooms of the Palazzo Venezia.

Ratto delle Sabine This initiative has been taken in collaboration with the Assessorato alle Politiche Culturali of the Comune di Roma, because the richest and most substantial collection of Cortona’s works is to be found in the Pinacoteca Capitolina, but also in the hope of incorporating the city of Rome itself.
Rome, where Cortona worked, owes to him much of the language which defines its baroque character, a language which is expression of one of the most artistically productive periods in the city’s history.

The exhibition, curated by Anna Lo Bianco, presents approximately 100 paintings, togheter with architectural drawings chosen by Karl Noehles and a selection of related bronzes and terracotta selected by Jennifer Montagu.
